Nantahala National Forest - Day 1

The hot Savannah summer is really getting into us and we decide to take a weekend road trip to the Nantahala National Forest highlands in Northeast Georgia. We stayed in this delightful Ramada Inn in the small town of Dillard located at the border of Georgia and Tennessee. The Ramada Inn wasn't cheap given the remote location but it was definitely worth it with its magnificent view of the mountains from the balcony.

It was raining on our first full day in Dillard but we pushed ahead for a 2 hour hike in Black Rock Mountain State Park. The rain and cloud cover concealed the view from the summit of Black Rock Mountain but it was a good exercise walking on the Tennessee Rock Trail.

We also took a walk around Black Rock Lake, which is a short half hour walk. Here is baby in her own hiking regalia at the lake.

In the afternoon we drove to the Coleman River Scenic Area and drove up the Tallulah River. It was a beautiful area, especially the end point at Tate City, a small hamlet in the Tallulah river valley.
