Baby Update

Baby is growing to be a big girl now. She is still not a verbal prodigy but she seems to be able to understand quite a bit. At last count, she seems to be able to understand approximately 30 words and even phrases. For example, she can take her bib out of the basket, pick out a specific toy in another room when asked to do so. At the moment she communicates with a babbling and "superior" pointing skills.

See her here in a cute blue denim dress with her favourite and sometimes stinky miffy.

Dinner Out At Pearl's Saltwater Grille

We don't eat out much here in Savannah, but once in a while we do try the local "southern" cuisine. No other adjective in my mind comes close to the experience of eating at Saltwater Grille. Imagine Paula Deene's cooking with the Savannah river landscape in the back drop and that is where this uniquely Savannah restaurant is situated. Where else would you be served deep fried hush puppies (a type of corn meal) as a starter, except in the deep south.

I had blackened mahi mahi washed down with a glass of riesling and wifey had grilled salmon. The food was ok but not memorable. Indeed it is the back drop to this restaurant, basically a swamp, which makes this experience unique.

Baby is adorable as usual and charmed many folks in the restaurant.

PS: the use of the word "folk" seems to be a very southern thing as well.

Hutchinson Island, Savannah

Hutchinson Island is a small island across Savannah River linked to the mainland by the Talmadge Bridge. There is a Convention Center, Hotel and Golf Course there but in my opinion, severely under-utilised because of the inaccessibility. However, it does provide an excellent river front view of River Street.

Tybee Beach (Again)

Savannah is a small city by any measure and we are running out of places to go. This is like our fourth time to Tybee Beach but it is baby's first time actually playing on the beach. She has been to many beaches, Myrtle Beach, Daytona Beach, Bahamas, to name a few but this is the first time she is mobile and aware enough to enjoy the sand. She was extremely excited and was blabbering the whole time we were there. We bought her a sand castle building kit and here she is busy splattering the sand all over, including some on her own food. hahaha.

Father and baby taking a stroll on the beach.

She was very excited to see the sea gulls and kept wandering away to have a closer look.
