Daniel Under the Big Top

Mei Xi had a big adventure today - she attended a children's event at a church. How this came about was that Vivian has been scouting for playgroups/nurseries for Chloe and found out about this church near the Henderson Golf Community, at the Gateway area, and she learnt about this event. The fairly new church looked nothing like a traditional church. Instead, its exterior architecture as well as interior furnishings (lush carpets, nice and clean toilets, spacious layout, signages etc) resembled a posh office building. The event was for children from birth up, but Mei Xi, at 2 1/2 months old, was among the youngest (and cutest!) baby there. The morning started with a mingling session for mothers and kids, followed by a musical put up by the church. A big marquee was set up in the hall for the musical, with the kids sitting in a semicircle all round the designated stage. The theme of the performance was 'trust in God', so there was lots of singing and dancing about this, with the kids being encouraged to sing and dance along. And the performers acted out the story of Daniel, who was thrown into a lion's den but survived unscathed because of his faith in the Lord. (The furry lion in the musical was really cute, like a big soft toy.) The performers tried to get the kids involved in the show, by such simple but effective ways as getting them to wear lion masks to simulate the presence of more lions in the den. Mei Xi had fallen asleep by the time the musical started, but she was woken up by all the noise, and she actually watched the entire musical, entranced. After the show, she even gave me a big smile, as though saying that she had enjoyed it! And I had been worried that she's too young to enjoy the show. I think it would probably be fun for her to go for more of such age-appropriate events - more mental stimulation that what we can reasonably provide at home.
