Mei Xi's Vocabulary

There are some days when Mei Xi stays awake and alert for many hours, only taking short naps in between. And she can get real chatty, happily cooing and ga-ing and making all sorts of sounds, sometimes spontaneously (even when she’s alone), and sometimes in response to what we say to her. It seems like she has quite a sweet voice. Hee. Her vocabulary has expanded and she now makes sounds like ‘coo’, ‘ah’, ‘ay’, ‘oh’, ‘er’, ‘gu’, ‘guai’. Sometimes she links these together like ‘ah gu guai’, so it sounds like she’s saying that she is very ‘guai1’ – maybe that’s because it’s what I’m always asking who is ‘guai1’ and I sometimes address her ‘Ah Coo’, since she coos so much. She has also tonnes of nicknames, among them, Little Princess, Xiao3 Gong1 Zhu3, Sweetpea, Sweetheart…

Smiles For Daddy

Another milestone today – Mei Xi smiled at Minhui! And she’s starting to display more social behaviours, such as smiling back in response to my smiles and laughs. It’s quite funny when she looks a bit unsure whether to laugh or not, and ends up smiling hesitantly. (Of course, she doesn’t know that sometimes I’m smiling at her for no particular reason, or that I’m actually laughing at her. Heh heh.) She has also developed greater muscular strength, and is able to push herself up on her arms when put on her tummy, and can sort of sit up when there’s support for her back (e.g. the sofa), and sort of stand with a bit of support. Anyway, she looks real cute when we hold her up by her armpits, and her fleshy arms are crossed in front of her chest, just under her chubby cheeks, and we can see how little she is. She’s such a miniature do

Messy Baby

Mei Xi can be such a messy and ‘un-girly’ baby sometimes. This afternoon, since she was happily playing on her own in her rocker, I left her to do other things, only returning periodically to check on her. And on one of these checks, I smelt something stinky – she’s pooped and she’s still happily lying in the rocker without a cry, and I’ve no idea how long she’s been sitting in her own poop! Yucks! And while I’m cleaning her bottom, she spit up, and her head rolled into the spit up before I could clean it up or hold her away. Gross! Neither does she seem to care much when her diaper is wet. As for her other ‘un-girly’ behaviours (presumably learnt from her dad) – big, lazy stretches; loud burps; noisy yawns…… I hope she grows out of these and be a cute little girly girl! (And we’ll keep her hair long and she can inherit all my hair accessories. Hee.)
